Goals and Backup Plans.

To have a goal is very important. It makes life a bit easier, because in a way, you know what you want and how to get it.
I have many goals, because my mind works very rapidly. I have what people may call "Backup Plans" just in case my first goal fails. I want to be a climatologist. This has to do with me studying the weather in different climates of the world. If this doesnt work out, I'd like to be a therapist. I am good at keeping things to myself, I love to help my friends and family whenever they need me, and I like to help people with problems that they are having about various situations. If plans A and B don't work, I think I may become a Motivational Speaker. I love to influence others with the knowledge that I have and further mine in the process. I have been told (Not that I like to toot my own horn) that I am a very influential person and that I inspire alot of people to not quit and become more than they are. If my A, B,and C plans fail, I'd Like to become a novelist. I love to read and I love to write, So that will work out well. It is important to have a goal and a few Backups incase it fails!

World Corruption and It's People
About this category: Peace & Conflict

The world has become a divided place. Whole countries have turned on each other, Ethnic people have traded on thier own kind, and the foundation of the human race has taken a drastic turn towards the worst. In an efficient way, We are all 1 people: -The Human Rcae-. So, why is it that we have to hurt each other to prive a point? Why is it that we have to rape our women, kill our children, and destroy our entire beings for nothing? Is it the need for power? Respect? Or, had the corruption of the world and -Human Race- become a noted past-time or a just a hooby that we've picked up? Most elders claim that our ("Our" being people of all races younger than 35-50 years of accumulated age and wisdom) current behavior is the reason for the corruption in today's world, But, I say to elders, Were YOU all so different? Most traits that the chldren of today's world possess come from thier line of family. If you and a friend entered a store, and you saw they were stealing, you question them. If they told you that everyone in thier family did it for as long as they could rememeber, what could you say??? Its a trait they were raised on. I say to you (Trusted readers of this posted entry of my blog)What do you believe is the true meaning of the world's corruption? Is it the actions of young adults, or the past actions of thier elders? Do they want power? Respect? What is the meaning of it all??

A Harsh Life...

Depending on the circumstances, many people will tell you that they have a "Harsh Life". But what does this mean??? A "Harsh Life" can have many meanings. Someone could have just lost a job, a loved one, or their entire being because of the chaos they around. But, what is the true meaning of it? If you are robbed on the street, you would be considered to have a "Harsh Life" to some, But to others, you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. On the other hand, Someone may have just lost a spouse, child, or very close friend. The would be considered to have a "Harsh Life" to some, But to others they may just be experiencing death and don't know how to grasp it. What Is YOUR Definition Of A"Harsh Life"???

América Latina, letal para los jóvenes
About this category: Peace & Conflict

TABASCO
About this category: Environment

MEXICO: People, Nature Share Responsibility for Tabasco Tragedy
By Diego Cevallos

MEXICO CITY, Nov 6 (IPS) - Hit by torrential rains in the last 15 days, 80 percent of the southwestern Mexican state of Tabasco is under water, one million people have been left homeless and damages are estimated at five billion dollars. Recovery will take years.

But environmentalists and experts say the disaster could have been mitigated.

"The authorities did not do a good enough job, in spite of previous experiences and the existence of studies warning of the risk of large-scale flooding," Jorge Escandón, head of the Greenpeace Mexico climate change campaign, told IPS.

Critics point out that in Tabasco, which is on the Gulf of Mexico, housing, roads and shopping centres were built in places that are floodwater drainage areas.

Mishandling of the hydroelectric dams that surround the state, dubious use of public funds, lack of hydraulic infrastructure and a permissive attitude towards deforestation have also been singled out for blame.

"Against the backdrop of climate change, which is producing ever more extreme natural phenomena, it’s clear that Tabasco did not do the right things," said Escandón.

With 25,000 square kilometres of mostly low-lying ground, Tabasco was pelted last week with an amount of rainfall equivalent to what the Mexican capital receives in a year and a half. The rivers swelled, broke their banks and flooded nearly everything.

It will take at least 100 days for the water levels to subside, sources at the state National Water Commission said on Tuesday, adding that the rainfall in Tabasco far exceeded the historic average.

Water levels slowly began to fall on Monday as the rains let up and the tide on the coast receded, allowing rivers to drain. However, the floodwaters remain.

One million people -- half the total population of Tabasco -- have lost their homes, businesses or crops.

Seventy thousand people are living in shelters, in their own state or in neighbouring Veracruz. Others were evacuated from the flooded areas in buses, and there are still hundreds of thousands who have stayed in their own flooded homes.

The adjacent state of Chiapas, on the border with Guatemala, also has thousands of flood victims. On Sunday a hillside collapsed into a river, creating a giant wave that engulfed a rural village. The death toll is not yet known, but estimates vary between 16 and 80 people killed.

The government of conservative President Felipe Calderón has said that the top priority now is to concentrate on helping the victims, rather than look for people to blame for the catastrophes, which in his view are due "to enormous climate variations."

Several tons of food, clothing, household goods and water have arrived in Tabasco over the past five days. A large part of this aid is from voluntary donations by ordinary Mexicans, as well as contributions from several foreign governments.

Environmentalists and members of opposition parties agree that now every effort must be made to support those affected by the tragedy, but say that later they will also examine its causes, which in their view go beyond the torrential rains.

Tabasco has grown under planning strategies that failed to take into account extreme climate variables, in spite of warnings and precedents, said Escandón.

"There was corruption among the authorities," because no hydraulic engineering works have been carried out in the last 20 years, said Andrés López Obrador, the former presidential candidate for the leftwing Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), who is from Tabasco. The state is governed by the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).

According to Miguel Granados, an analyst for the leftwing weekly Proceso and the newspaper Reforma, "ineptitude, corruption or a mixture of the two, and other factors, added to the heavy rains, combined to produce the enormous suffering that is overwhelming the people of Tabasco."

Guadalupe Treviño, an expert consultant in hydraulics for private construction companies, told IPS that while Tabasco grew, the authorities "did not take seriously the fact" that the state is in a swampy, low-lying tropical area surrounded by rivers.

"Housing, highways and other infrastructure should not have been built, as they were, on land in the drainage course of floodwaters," she said.

"When the disaster is over there’ll be lots of dirty linen to wash, and a number of past and present officials will be called to account for their irresponsibility," Treviño predicted.

Tabasco is one of the states carrying the most water in the country, due to its complex river network that flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

The Usumacinta and the Grijalva rivers, which carry higher volumes than any other river in the country, form a delta in Tabasco that pours 125 billion cubic metres of water a year into the Gulf.

The secretariat of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction issued a communiqué which said that the impact of the flooding in Tabasco could have been reduced by an early warning system and adequate land-use planning.

In 1999 Tabasco also suffered widespread flooding, though not to the same extent as at present. At that time, engineering works were planned and measures were promised to prevent such problems in the future.

Interior Minister Francisco Ramírez said on Friday Nov. 2 that "it is quite certain that these works were never carried out, and it is quite certain that the corresponding investment has not been made in the past few years" to prevent flooding.

Ramírez was speaking about the Integrated Flood Control Project, an official plan designed for Tabasco, costing some 260 million dollars. Doubts have arisen about how this money was spent, as 70 percent of it should have been invested by now, according to the plan.

The government of the state of Tabasco received an additional one billion dollars in the last seven years, and other allocations, to carry out works to mitigate potential floods.

"What happened to all that money? That is a question that will have to be answered. The evidence indicates that buildings were constructed in the wrong places and that the river basins were generally mismanaged," said the Greenpeace spokesman.

In the view of Sergio Sarmiento, a columnist for Reforma, "if the floods could really have been prevented by hydraulic engineering works, and if these had been planned and there were resources available for them, then we are talking not only about negligence, but criminal responsibility."

"But there are good reasons to believe that no hydraulic infrastructure could have stemmed the enormous floods in Tabasco," brought on by quantities of rain that have never been seen before, said Sarmiento. (END/2007)

Padecen rezago educativo 33 millones, admite SEP

True Happiness

Thanks to my TIG family that extended their warm Happy B-Day to me. I can honestly say that I am happy with my life and with who I have become. I am now comfortable in my own skin and more appreciative of the things and people in my life. I spent part of my B-day in self-evaluation because nobody knows me better than me. At the end of that evaluation, I realised that I am one happy lady; obviously not because I have done all that I can but because I know where I started and have a clear destination in mind. Once again, thanks to all that remembered.

Sorry for your Loss.

I want to extend my condolences to anyone here at TIG who lost someone this past year-Sorry for your loss. A friend of mine lost her Mother through lung cancer and it was just a horrible experience even though she is not my own mother. I am so grateful for not losing anyone but such situations reminds me that I have to do what I need to do for the people in my life today not tomorrow because they or me might not be here tomorrow. Sometimes we tend to underappreciate people in our lives that we began to neglect them, putting things off, not calling, not visiting and sometimes engaging in malice or silent treatments. Well once these people are gone, you will regret not doing the right thing. Wishing you can turn back time to tell these people how you really feel about them- well today is your time. Let go and be free.

healthy habits-saves lives.

2007, is here and many of us has prabably forgotten our new year's resolution -that is if had any. It is so sad to me when I hear some people say things like "I don't make new year resolutions." What they are really saying is that they are so perfect, so flawless that they do not need any improvement whatever. Well I am yet to meet that perfect living human. Anyway back to my topic, focus Nina.
Healthy habits should be your watch-word if you want to have a healthier life this new year. Watch what you put into your body system, be active, read some books to keep your brain sharp, get some quality sleep regulary and have a good family/friends network. Spirituality also helps, I know because it helps and guides me regulary.

Desarrollo Sustentable.
About this category: Environment

Trafficking of Women
About this event: 2006 United Nations Conference on Human Rights Migration and Development

This article was about men who abuse women. They kidnap women and rape them and then let other men rape the women. Trafficking is selfish and unfair to women. We shouldn't have to be used for sex. Each year women are tricked into things that they really don't want to do. Trafficking is a new slave trade. Many people are involved in Trafficking.

Voluntary and Involuntary Migration
About this event: 2006 United Nations Conference on Human Rights Migration and Development

The article I read was about Voluntary and Involuntary migration. It was basically talking about the different reasons why immigrants eave ther home palces and move to different places voluntary or involuntary. So they gave and example of a girl named Tina who was 27 years old. They talked about how she lefft Uganda to find her boyfriend, but where she lived was falling apart anyway; She went to go find her boyfriend in Manchester. Also how the girl Tina made it and found her boyfriend and she sent backserveral thousand pounds back to Uganda to plot land and herold house to be knocked down. This is basicallywhat this one article was about. This would be a case of voluntary migration because she wanted to leave where she lived. But some involuntary migration moght be because of natural disasters or life or death situations.
